Matt Kaplan teaches classical and finger style guitar students and trains music teachers. 


Matt is a state certified educator based in New York City who brings his enthusiasm for music into each one of his lessons.  He has devoted and continues to devote much of his time towards the development of classical guitar pedagogy in an effort to advance the level of the instrument, his students, and the music.

Throughout his 15+ years of teaching experience Matt has developed a keen acumen for understanding his student's needs and knowing what it takes to achieve their goals. He has also traveled extensively over the course of his career in order to teach the classical guitar and to learn from internationally acclaimed artists.  In Matt's most recent professional experience, he was in charge of training private music teachers to teach the most effective and impactful lessons possible.  In addition, Matt has had the great privilege of performing in master classes for artists such as Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, Scott Tennant, William Kanengeiser, Eduardo Fernández, Martha Masters, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Jorge Caballero, and many more.


Matt teaches both adults and children (12+) at all levels.  Some of Matt's students have gone on to establish themselves playing in successful bands, have been accepted to Juilliard Precollege for composition, and more!
